On 26th of March 2025, the Migration Department of the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection of Cyprus has announced the re-launch the Digital Nomads Visa scheme, under which non-EU or non-EEA nationals are allowed to submit their application provided that they can perform their work remotely using telecommunications technology, to live temporarily in Cyprus and work for an employer registered abroad or perform work remotely through technology for companies or for their clients that are located abroad.

A Non-EU or non-EEA national shall meet the below conditions in order to be able to benefit from the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa scheme:

  1. He/she must be able to perform his/her work remotely through telecommunications technology;
  2. He/she must be employed in a company registered abroad, for which he/she can work location-independently, or is self-employed offering services remotely for clients located abroad; and
  3. He/she must prove that he/she has stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3500 (after the deduction of contributions and taxes).

 

Individuals that are granted with a Digital Nomad residence permit can benefit from the following:

  • They obtain the right of residence for a year in Cyprus, with a possibility of renewal for further two years.
  • They have the right of residence for family members, for the same period as the Digital Nomad, without the right to be employed of perform economic activity in Cyprus. Family members include the spouse or the partner in a civil union and underaged children.
  • If they reside in Cyprus for one of more periods that in total exceed 183 days within the same tax year, then they are considered tax residents of Cyprus, provided they are not tax residents in any other country.

The procedure to apply for the temporary residence permit under the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa scheme is as follows:

Within three months from the arrival, the applicant should submit to the Migration Department the relevant application along with the required documents. The required documents are the below:

1. Valid passport or other travel document with validity of at least three months from the date of the submission of the application.

2. For employees working for a company registered abroad:

  • employment contract of indefinite duration or of at least equal duration to the requested residence permit,
  • employer’s confirmation that the applicant can perform his/her duties remotely and that the project/work does not concern activity or provision of services to an employer registered in Cyprus,
  • duly stamped copy of the company’s registration certificate abroad, stating the legal name, registered base, activity field and corporate purpose of the company,
  • contact information of the company abroad,
  • information on the status of the applicant in the company.

 

OR for self-employment:

  • contract(s) of project or of services with a duration of at least equal to the requested residence permit,
  • confirmation by the applicant that he/she can perform his/her duties remotely and that the project does not concern activity or provision of services to a client established in Cyprus.

 

3. Evidence that the applicant has net sufficient and stable monthly living resources amounting to at least €3500 (this amount is increased by 20% for the spouse or partner and by 15% for each child), after the deduction of contributions and taxes:

  • proof of salary payment showing the net income, and
  • detailed bank statements of the last six months that prove the existence of a stable and satisfactory income outside Cyprus.

4. Original Certificate of Criminal Record from the country of origin or the country of residence (if different)

5. Original blood analysis results showing that the applicant does not bear/suffer from HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C and chest x-rays for tuberculosis (TB), duly certified by a specialized Doctor.

6. Certificate of Health Insurance for medical care that covers inpatient and outpatient care and transportation of corpse (Plan A)

7. Title deed or rental agreement of a house/apartment, duly stamped if valued over €5000 AND corresponding utility bill.

8. Affirmation to which the applicant will commit that he/she or his/her family members will not provide work or services or project in any way to an employer or clients established in Cyprus.

The documents shall be officially translated and duly certified/ ratified.

The time of examination of the application is between 5 to 7 weeks.

The Scheme’s goal is to strengthen Cyprus as a centre for the provision of electronic services, where in combination with the other advantages offered by Cyprus, the attraction of digital nomads will contribute to the development of the business ecosystem and consequently to the economic development of the country.
